In Kansas City, there are three large viaducts and several smaller bridges. Of the smaller bridges, this dual span concrete arch is the most unique.
While this bridge is smaller and considerably less decorative than the Blue Parkway Viaduct or the Gregory Boulevard Viaduct, it is still a significant part of the cutoff that was built through here.
The bridge consists of a pair of closed spandrel concrete arches. These two arches are 112 feet in length, which is actually larger than the massive arches of the previously mentioned structures.
This structure was built to cross Wildcat Hollow. Wildcat Hollow Drive would be added after the initial construction in 1928.
It is believed that this viaduct was a simple design, largely because the size of the hollow did not require a large viaduct, and a road did not travel underneath when constructed.
Fortunately, this bridge is in great condition. The four viaducts in this area are a true testament to the care that the KCS puts into their infrastructure.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the smaller size.
